PROS:

  1. “I had a great time with Vegas Pro. It was easy in my PC’s RAM and fun to play with.”
  2. “I love the unique qualities that allow the user to change and edit video, from color to manipulation.”

Cons:

  1. The digital version does not come with a comprehensive instruction manual to understand how to use each effect, especially with regard to third-party resources that can be added during the lifetime of the application. ~ Massive amounts of unexplained glitches and crashes (although many can be fixed through manual tweaks and official bug fix builds). ~ Occasional requirement to reinstall QuickTime after selected major Windows firmware updates. ~ Critical issues with RAM consumption (specifically allocated memory) when using media items with a particular codec or resolution significantly higher than the project size. Heavy reliance on OpenCL prefers AMD’s Compute ~ based graphics cards over Nvidia’s graphics ~ based cards (although this may be beneficial for PC builders on a tighter budget).
  2. I upgraded to Sony Vegas Pro 16 (version 011) from Microsoft’s Windows Live Movie Maker which initially shipped with Windows 07, which was significantly important to improve the production quality and file size of our works at the end of 2011 and beyond, whereby we completely abandoned WLMM at the end of 2014. Vegas has helped to better understand how media production is really meant to be done, by providing a truly professional feel that dominates everything WLMM could have delivered to us in previous years; had this switchover never happened, my group’s works would have suffered significantly, and remain trapped in an era of static impact in the future, so I warmly applaud what Sony and MAGIX have done with the software in the time I used it, Vegas Pro may not be perfect, but it still gets the job done for me and my staff far more than just about any other software could with the speed and effectiveness it has done for over a decade.
