Autodesk EAGLE PCB design software is an EDA, popularly known as Electronic Design Automation Software. PCB designers can use this software to seamlessly connect extensive library content, PCB routing, component placement, and schematic diagrams. It comes with intuitive and a wide variety of PCB layout tools to make the designs a reality. Pairing with the Fusion 360, further makes it a complete package for PCB designers. When PCBs weren’t discovered, engineers connected all the components to a circuit using external wires, similar to how it’s done on a breadboard today. But as the circuits grew larger and more complex, it became extremely difficult to establish reliable connections with external wires.

To solve this problem, PCBs were introduced in the year 1936. Today, there are many tools and software available online and offline for PCB design that allow you to easily design and manufacture PCBs. We have already learned about PCB basics in our previous article, in this article, we will discuss and compare some popular PCB design software based on their price, usability, and other features. Here we discuss some of the most commonly used EDA software such as EAGLE, Multisim, EasyEDA, Altium design, OrCAD, and KiCAD. This software is widely used for PCB design and electronic circuit simulation.
Features:
- Multi-sheet schedules:-Control and organize even the most complex projects with synchronized connectivity across multiple schedules.
- Electrical regulation control (ERC):-Verify the correct pin names and connections on your schedule in seconds with fully customizable net classes.
- Dynamic design synchronization:-Customize your design worry-free, with changes synchronized between your schematic and PCB layout.
- Mounting variants:-Meet the needs of all of your customers with easy management and design variant switching.
- Superfast technologies:-Stay on top of the latest technologies such as DDR4, PCI Express, and USB-C with the latest fast routing tools.
- Design Rule Check (DRC):-Keep an eye on your production guidelines without interrupting your design process with customizable rules.
Pros:
- The user base is large enough that whatever I want to do, someone has already done it and posted suggestions, tutorials, and how-tos. The same is true of libraries – although I tell people Eagle is a great layout tool with the worst possible search to find them! Recent improvements that make the layout more intuitive are much appreciated, but the overall ease of use still surpasses the alternatives I’ve tried without a doubt.
Cons:
- A search of course. While it is easier to group objects, it is still tricky and not at all intuitive. Why Eagle designers chose to scramble all the icons is a mystery and a constant source of frustration – for no reason. Allow the user to arrange tools as desired – or leave them alone! I also don’t understand why I get a login window every time and why some of my projects are still entitled “Free” even though I bought a license. The need to have multiple control panel windows open to copy and paste between designs is a hassle. But the biggest dislike is NO AUTOSAVE. I can’t tell you how many times Microsoft in its wisdom decided that Windows should close all my windows and restart, thus losing my last changes. I know what’s out there, but it’s insufficient in this day and age, and it shouldn’t rely on the user to remember when to save a backup.
